Forests and Landscapes

LANDSCAPE RESTORATION

At Biodiversity Hub International (BHI), we center our approach around integrated and inclusive landscape management, recognizing that living landscapes offer a unique opportunity to harmonize the well-being of both people and nature. This involves effective land use planning, restoration efforts, sustainable agricultural practices, freshwater resource management, infrastructure development, and other economic sectors. It is paramount to acknowledge these critical landscapes and seascapes as valuable national assets actively contributing to biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, and as fundamental components of the sustainabledevelopment vision.

GOAL : Enhancing Socio-Ecological Resilience in Priority andscapes

By the year 2025, we aim to witness a substantial improvement in the socio-ecological resilience of priority regions, encompassing land, water, and seascapes. These areas will benefit from enhanced, effective management or sustainable use, delivering advantages for both people and nature. Furthermore, priority landscapes will be sustainably financed, exhibiting measurable advancements in connectivity and equitability.

Strategic Interventions

Enhanced Integrated Landscape Management

BHI will expand the area under sustainable management with our support for land, water, and seascapes. This will involve the promotion of integrated landscape management approaches aimed at optimizing the balance between human activity and ecological preservation.

Promotion of Sustainable Practices

BHI will advocate for the application of sustainable practices, such as agriculture, aquaculture, and fisheries production, in targeted areas. These practices will serve as catalysts for transforming priority biodiversity regions, reinforcing ecological connections, safeguarding species, enhancing ecosystem services, and addressing the impacts of climate change.

Minimization of Conversion and Maximization of Restoration

BHI will actively endorse strategies and initiatives that lead to improved management and restoration of critical habitats, including forests, coastal areas, marine environments, freshwater ecosystems, grasslands, and savannas. Our efforts will focus on priority landscapes and seascapes, with restoration initiatives strategically placed for maximum impact.

Increased Coverage of Protected & Conserved Areas (PCAs)

Through participatory approaches guided by best practices, BHI will develop and implement strategies for conserving critical biodiversity regions. These strategies will adhere to principles of inclusivity, equity, and quantifiable conservation models that respect environmental and social safeguards.

Enhanced Management Effectiveness and Inclusivity

BHI is committed to improving management effectiveness in protected and conserved areas through capacity building, technical support, and effective management practices.

Minimization of Degradation and Enhancement of Connectivity

BHI will prioritize efforts to elevate the quality and connectivity of critical biodiversity areas. This will be achieved through the protection, restoration, and ecologically sound management of both land and waterways.
